Computer won’t turn on or start?

PCFIXIT assesses suitable computer power and startup faults on the Gold Coast. Contact our Burleigh Heads team to arrange an assessment.

A computer that has no power, shows a blank screen or cannot load its operating system may have different underlying problems. Diagnosis comes before a repair recommendation.

Common symptoms

What happens when you press the power button?

No lights or sound

Power delivery, charging equipment, battery or internal hardware may need assessment.

Lights on, screen blank

A display, connection or other hardware issue may be involved. A blank screen does not establish which part has failed.

Starts but does not load

Operating system, storage or hardware faults can interrupt startup. Describe any messages and recent changes.

Before an assessment

Protect your data and avoid repeated attempts

  • Check that the external power lead is securely connected and the outlet is switched on.
  • Note any error message, unusual sound, liquid exposure or recent drop.
  • Tell us whether important files are backed up.
  • Do not reset or reinstall the operating system if you need data that has not been backed up.
  • If there is burning, swelling, liquid damage or unusual clicking, stop using the device and arrange advice.

Do not open a power supply or attempt electrical repairs. Bring the appropriate charger to an agreed appointment where relevant.

Next steps

Assessment before repair

We discuss the symptoms and determine whether the device is suitable for assessment. Findings help establish the available repair options, likely parts requirements and whether data recovery needs separate consideration.

Windows repair or reinstallation may be appropriate for some software faults. It does not resolve a failed physical component.

Your questions

Frequently asked questions

Can you tell me the repair cost before inspecting the computer?

We can discuss the assessment process, but a repair recommendation and cost depend on the fault, device and any parts required.

Will my files be retained?

That depends on the condition of the storage and the work required. Tell us about important data before authorising any reset, reinstall or repair.

Can I bring the computer straight to the office?

Please contact us first. Suitable in-office assessments at Burleigh Heads are by appointment.

Can every computer be repaired?

No. Parts availability, device condition and repair cost can make replacement more appropriate. The assessment helps identify the practical options.
