Plan cloud infrastructure around the work it supports

Moving a business application into the cloud is a decision about access, cost, support and recovery. PCFIXIT helps you scope the environment before choosing or changing a hosting arrangement.

Understand the application requirements

We start with what your team needs to run, the people who need access and the systems it connects to. Some applications suit hosted infrastructure; others need a different approach.

  • Review application compatibility and vendor requirements.
  • Identify users, locations, access methods and connectivity.
  • Discuss licensing, capacity and ongoing administration.
  • Define backup, recovery and support responsibilities.

Make responsibilities explicit

Hosting infrastructure does not automatically include application support, security administration or backups. Your proposal should identify the provider responsibilities, your responsibilities and the services included in ongoing support.

Scope the move and ongoing costs

We discuss the existing environment, dependencies and expected use before proposing a change. Confirm recurring charges, licensing, storage, backup, migration and exit arrangements so the decision reflects the whole service.

Questions before you enquire

Should every business application move to the cloud?

No. Compatibility, performance, licensing and business requirements should be assessed first.

Will cloud hosting remove the need for backups?

No. Backup coverage, retention and recovery arrangements still need to be defined.

What information helps you scope the project?

The application names, current servers or hosting, number of users, access requirements and any vendor support information.
