Ad hoc support
Consider this for occasional, clearly scoped work where your business already has someone responsible for ongoing maintenance. Confirm availability, minimum charges and the work authorised before it starts.
Ad hoc support buys help when it is needed. A prepaid block buys engineering time. Managed IT adds ongoing responsibilities for agreed systems. The right choice depends on who will maintain, secure and recover your technology between support requests.
Use this guide to decide which model fits your business, then ask PCFIXIT for a written scope based on your users, devices, locations and critical applications.

Consider a block of time when you need recurring assistance but want to retain responsibility for managing your environment. Check expiry, eligible work, time reporting and what happens when the balance runs out.
Consider an ongoing agreement when staff depend on technology every day and you want defined ownership of support and maintenance. Check which users, systems, security tasks and recovery services are covered.
These are common differences to discuss, not guaranteed inclusions in any provider’s plan.
| Decision | Ad hoc | Prepaid block | Managed IT |
|---|---|---|---|
| How is work funded? | Approved work is charged as required. | Eligible work draws down purchased time. | A recurring fee covers an agreed scope; additional work may be charged separately. |
| Who handles routine maintenance? | Confirm who schedules and authorises it. | Confirm whether it is scheduled and consumes the block. | Ask for the maintenance tasks, coverage and exception process. |
| Are security and backups included? | Only if separately agreed. | A time balance alone does not establish coverage. | Check protected systems, licences, monitoring, restore testing and response duties. |
| What about onsite work and projects? | Agree the scope, travel and charges. | Check whether these qualify for prepaid hours. | Check exclusions and whether a separate project quote is required. |
| What proves the work is happening? | Work notes and completion checks. | Time usage, remaining balance and work notes. | Service reports, maintenance exceptions, risks and agreed follow-up actions. |
A meaningful quote starts with the environment and the responsibilities you want covered. User count alone does not describe servers, shared devices, business applications, multiple locations or recovery requirements.
Request a written breakdown of recurring charges, one-off work and exclusions. PCFIXIT confirms pricing and service commitments in a proposal; this guide does not advertise a fixed price or response-time guarantee.

No. Check the agreement for projects, migrations, hardware, onsite work, third-party applications and after-hours support. A recurring fee applies to the scope specified in the proposal.
No. Prepaid support is a way to purchase time. Proactive management requires defined tasks, ownership and follow-up. Ask whether those duties are included or need to be arranged separately.
Suitable existing systems may remain in place. PCFIXIT reviews access, supportability and requirements before recommending changes. A provider change does not automatically require a tenant migration.
Bring an approximate user and device count, locations, key applications, current support concerns and known renewal dates. Do not send passwords or sensitive customer information through the enquiry form.
Tell us what needs to work better. We can discuss the appropriate review, scope and proposal.
